Italian Holiday :: Day 1 :: Travelling

Richie and Lizzy drove us to the airport at about 3pm and we checked-in and then sat in a bar and had a late lunch and chatted for a little while.  At 5pm we said our farewells and went through customs to the boarding gate.  We took off for Dubai via Singapore on an Emirates flight at 6pm.  We had dinner and I watched nice movie with Ewan McGregor in it, called "Fishing in Yemen", slept for a while and then watched a few episodes of "The Big Bang Theory".

After about seven hours, we landed in Singapore, where we had to disembark for about an hour and a half.  It was midnight there, but the shops were still open, so we browsed a few of them and then I got a soy hot chocolate from Starbuck's and we checked our emails at the internet kiosk.

Back on the plane, it was another eight hours or so to Dubai, during which we had another dinner, I watched a weird movie called "The Chernobyl Diaries", slept for a while and then watched a whole series of "Modern Family", I read a little and we slept.  We had to wait around at Dubai airport for five hours, so we did a little duty-free shopping.  I bought some Estée Lauder makeup and perfume.

Then we walked down to the other end of the airport (about 15 minutes) and stopped in at the "Irish Pub", where all the wait staff were either Asian or Indian.  We sat "outside" on the balcony and watched the sunrise (as it was about 6am) and had another dinner (sweet potato & leek soup for me and chicken wings for Wayne, which looked way over-cooked), washed down with a bourban & coke for me and a pint of ale for Wayne - a nice way to start the day!  We stayed there for a couple of hours, watching the US news on CNN, then strolled back to our boarding gate, where we had to wait another hour or so before we could board our plane for Rome.
